The Artistic Ideal – Giving Back to the
Community
RAM is not just about showcasing great artists. It
is also
about contributing to the cultural life of the community and enhancing
our city's visual environment.
In this vein, the Riverside Arts Market has created a special project
sponsored by Winn-Dixie and supported by Community Connections: The Hubbard House Bakery.
Hubbard House
is one of the nation's oldest and admired shelters for battered and
abused women and their children. The Hubbard House Bakery Project,
founded by RAM artist Elaine Wheeler, teaches Hubbard House clients
baking skills to help them obtain future employment. Using the kitchen
and equipment provided by Community Connections and materials provided
by Winn-Dixie, these women bake wonderful and wholesome confectionery
products that are sold at the Riverside Arts Market every week. The
budding bakers get to keep the proceeds from all of the products that
are sold, creating a multitude of benefits for everyone.
Be sure to stop by the Hubbard House Bakery booth each week to purchase
freshly baked bread, cakes, pies, and cookies, all prepared with
natural ingredients and without preservatives. This is truly beautiful
food for a wonderful cause.
__________
RAM hopes to find sponsorships for four other service-oriented
projects, which will be affiliated with RAM and which will give back to
the community:
“See the Light; See the Color!” sponsoring
student artists
- "Sulzbacher Center Feeding the Hungry"
project
- "Bringing Fresh Food to Families" project
- "Clara White Mission Culinary Arts" project
