Performing Artist Guidelines - Market Year 2010
MARKET HOURS
The Riverside Arts Market (RAM) will be open every Saturday from 10am
to 4pm from March 6, 2010 through December 18, 2010. The Market Manager
has decision-making authority to close RAM for inclement weather or any
other reason.
PERFORMING
AT THE RIVERSIDE ARTS MARKET
RAM boasts one of the most spectacular performance spaces in North
Florida. Our all-weather permanent River Stage is framed by the scenic
St Johns River and a backdrop of the downtown skyline, with a
mini-amphitheatre and terraced seating-in-the round. Street
Performers will utilize open spaces throughout the covered Market Site,
adding their zest, creativity, and activity to RAM excitement.
Performing Artists pay no fees (not even the Registration Fee as for
other artists), nor are Performing Artists paid for their performance
at RAM, other than for special concerts on the River Stage. Performing
Artists may solicit donations, as described below.
All Performing Artists will have their names published in our weekly
newsletter and on our website, and they will receive cheers, applause,
and an occasional “Wow!” after their performances.
RAM is a family-friendly environment, and obscenities are prohibited.
TWO
TYPES OF PERFORMING ARTISTS:
(1) River Stage Artists are
those performers who require amplification of sound, have talent
appropriate for the setting, and are approved and scheduled by VIP
Productions.
(2) Street Performers are those
who require little or no amplification of sound, have talents
appropriate for the setting within RAM, and are approved and scheduled
by the Street Performer Manager, a.k.a., The Ringmaster.
RIVER STAGE
PERFORMING ARTISTS
All performers who wish to appear on the River Stage must apply to
VIP Productions, which has been contracted by RAM to
provide sound equipment and performance management support for the
River Stage. VIP will bring and set up professional sound equipment and
staff the operation of the equipment every Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

River Stage performer. You will be contacted by VIP within 7 days to
audition and/or to be scheduled.
STREET
PERFORMING ARTISTS
All Street Performers who wish to appear at RAM must apply to the
Street Performer Manager for approval and assignment of time and
location. Significantly more opportunities are available for Street
Performers than River Stage Artists. We are seeking sidewalk chalk
artists, unicyclists, clowns, balloon makers, jugglers, human statues,
break dancers, one-man bands, solo musicians, stilt walkers, acrobats,
tap dancers, and so on; really, anything that sounds interesting.
Please keep in mind that there is ambient background noise from the
highway overhead, so that Street Performers such as poets and
story-tellers will only be audible to a small audience.

here to fill out the Street Performer Application for Approval. You
will
be contacted by the Street Performer Manager within 7 days to audition
and/or to be scheduled.
RULES
FOR ALL PERFORMING ARTISTS
1. No politics, religion, ponzi schemes, explosives, fireworks,
obscenity, or nudity will be allowed.
2. If you are doing something dangerous, such as a sword thrower or
flame eater, you will need to provide insurance coverage to the city
and RAM and sign a waiver of responsibility. Any use of flames or fire
must be pre-approved by the Market Manager. All performers who use fire
must strictly follow the guidelines of the North American Fire Arts
Association.
3. Please don’t interfere with the flow of RAM visitors or intrude into
a vendor’s booth space.
4. Street Performing Artists pay no fees, nor are they paid for their
performance at RAM. Performers may solicit tips, in a respectful
manner. Performers may sell CDs and DVDs related to their own
performances. Other hand-made items related to the performance may be
sold if approved in advance by the RAM Ringmaster.
5. No performer may present an act or performance within the Market
Site unless they have properly registered with and been scheduled by
the RAM staff or VIP.
6. Violation of any of these rules, including failure to appear when
you are scheduled, may result in permanent exclusion from performing at
the RAM.
WEATHER
RAM is an all-weather event. Artists need to be prepared for all
weather conditions. The River Stage and most of the street performance
sites are reasonably protected from rain and sun and severe storms, so
plan on appearing as scheduled unless you are notified by the Market
Manager or VIP. RAM is not responsible for weather-related damage.
Artists must be prepared to deal with high winds and/or blowing rain
that may sometimes affect any and all Market sites.
DOGS
AND OTHER PETS
Performing Artists are not allowed to bring dogs or other pets to RAM,
unless they are an integral part of your act.
PARKING
Parking is available at the First Guaranty Bank parking lot, which is
across the street from RAM, or at the Fidelity surface lot, which is
located next to RAM on Riverside Avenue. Cars must be removed by
7pm every Saturday. There is no parking in the Red Cross lot. No
vehicles can be left on the RAM site between the hours of 9:30am and
4:15pm, unless permitted by the Market Manager (farmers, for example,
may sell items from backs of their trucks). We are very fortunate to
have ample parking close by for you and your customers. Please respect
these parking regulations and help us keep the parking lots clean.
