Internationally
known as the lead singer/songwriter of the Capitol
Records gothic rock recording group, THE LORDS OF THE NEW CHURCH and
his own popular solo electro metal outfit, Steven Marque is also an
accomplished fine visual artist and writer. Marque received a Bachelor
of Fine Arts degree and Masters Degree in English Language Arts. He has
worked professionally as Designer, Illustrator, Painter, Photographer,
Published Author of two books of Poetry: “THE DEATH OF ART” and
“MENAGERIE” and the children’s title: ”IMAGINATION,” Within
his high
mannerist chiaroscuro style, his nudes reveal an appreciation for
posture and a preference for provocation. His subjects emerge from
voids of blackness like glistening, smoldering denizens of the night;
thick with sweat and duende; or float on clouds of light as isolated
inhabitants of stateless interiors - vacant but for the nurturing
comfort of their own essence. His females are statuesque and heroic,
both in action and in repose. In his mind’s eye and art, Steven
Marque’s female forms are honored and depicted with grace, mystery and
love; whether innocent, decadent or otherwise.
After living and performing internationally since 2000, Steven now
splits his time between the Hollywood Hills of California and Florida’s
First Coast painting commissioned portraits for clients
and involved
with numerous charitable organizations for animal rights including
Peta, The Jacksonville Humane Society and Citizens for Animal Rights
and Education.
Stevenmarque 2009 Portraiture Artist's Statement
My art is to immerse into my commissioned subjects wholly and interpret
selflessly. Doing so provides me practice in self-mastery and allows me
to serve my clients. In the time spent crafting a portrait of
a subject, I am able to live, capture and document a shared
continuem
of awareness. I attempt to empty myself of everything internal and
filll myself with everything that is the subject in the moments we are
together. This method does not conform to the worlds ways and is is
purely intended to transmute the passions of the subject and the event
of creating the art that is the subject. I generously offer my
non-attachement to my subjects with a good and peaceful mind. My
patience is my humility and my greatest efforts are derived from my
lack of concern with results. I simply let go and by doing so enable
the subject to let go too; so we both can see through appearances
together, simultaneously and craft art mutually and honestly.
