"Trash Dogs"
by Jinx Bentley
Jinx Bentley was the very first artist to reserve a booth at the
Riverside Arts Market, and for this distinction we salute her as the
current "Artist of the Week."
Jinx likes to surprise people. A creative sculptor, she is an extremely
passionate and self-motivated artist exploding with fresh new ideas.
Art has been a part of her life since she can remember. Her mother is
an artist, and she grew up watching her and dreaming of someday being
able to express herself in a beautiful way like her mother. Art is her
passion in life, and she admits that "Art is like a fever within
me, a bubbling volcano that needs to erupt."
She has worked in many media in the past, but at this point she enjoys
working with “castaway” materials like newspaper, old wire, and scrap
wood, paper mache, clay, and lots of recyclable items. Each one of her
sculptures has a special meaning, and she feels that they are each a
little piece of her.
Every sculptor wants his/her work to have a presence, and Jinx is no
exception. Her work can take the viewer by surprise and make people
smile, because she likes dynamic compositions and oddball humor.
She has taken art classes throughout her school years, and she is
working toward becoming a professional sculptor. Jinx says "There is
nothing more in the world that I would want to be than an artist. Art
gives me something that nothing else can."
