Tim
Bullard

Tim Bullard has been a working artist/potter in Jacksonville for over
30 years. From a early age he began drawing obsessively and creating in
many media. At 15 years of age his parents allowed him to create a
photographic darkroom in their family home. This led to working as a
photographer for local studios in his late teens/early 20's. In the mid
1970's while studying printmaking with Mark Howard, Tim began working
in clay and as a teaching assistant for Ron Wetherell. Clay became his
main medium, experimenting with diverse techniques in porcelain,
stoneware and Raku. This led to working with Mandarin potter Charlie
Brown who became both a mentor and a great inspiration for Tim.
Arrowmont
School of Crafts in the Tennessee Mountains provided the next step in
his studies with teachers such as Tom Turner and Victor Spensky. In
1979 upon returning to Jacksonville he opened Tim Bullard's Pottery/Art
Gallery/Teaching Studio in the Five Points area (and later at Park and
King in Riverside).
In 1985 Tim was commissioned by the City of Jacksonville to create and
reproduce architectural ornamental Sculpture for the Prime Osborn
Convention Center. This was a huge job and somewhat of a career change
for Tim who took on several other architectural projects in the
Jacksonville area. At this point Tim refocused back to his own work,
utilizing many of the sculpture techniques he had perfected. Creating
larger mixed media sculpture and pottery, Tim began incorporating his
drawing and printmaking ideas into this new work. Concentrating on art
shows and gallery exhibitions, his new work began to win numerous
awards, both regional and nationally. Tim Bullard-a mixed media one man
show at FCCJ Kent Campus Gallery featured new Raku, illustrated
porcelain and assemblages. Tim's work is included in collection's
throughout the US, Mexico and Europe.
Most recently Tim's work was featured in the First Coast Portfolio:A
Juried Art Educator's Exhibition at MOCA/JAX, won best in show at the
Mandarin Art Festival and first place pottery at the St Augustine
Spring Art Festival.
Tim teaches pottery and drawing at the JCA (8505 San Jose Blvd) and for
Artlife Productions Inc. He also teaches at his home studio on
Wednesday evenings 6pm to 730pm and 730pm to 9pm.
